Meghan Markle news: Duchess left ‘frustrated’ after not being able to speak up | Royal | News

Princess Diana’s biographer, Andrew Morton, responded to the reports made by the royal correspondents Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand in their new book Finding Freedom. He spoke about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s departure as senior royals on the documentary Harry and Meghan: The New Revelations.

Mr Morton said: “She’s been frustrated by the fact that she’s not been able to give her side of the story.

“All kinds of stories have come out about her, and she’s not been able to answer back, and it’s something she’s found immensely frustrating.”

The royal expert said he felt sorry for the Duchess as she married into a “very difficult family”.

He said: “I feel for this poor girl, I mean, she came into this country, parachuted in.”

Mr Morton added: “She’s marrying into a very difficult family, that everybody finds difficult to come into.

“And she’s someone who didn’t know an awful lot about British history, British culture and as she said herself she’s going to hit the ground running.

“And she hit the ground running, but she found she came up against a brick wall.”

Last year the Duke and Duchess spoke about their struggles as senior members of the Royal Family during the documentary Harry and Meghan: An African Journey.

“This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting.”

Mr Scobie and Ms Durand, the book’s authors, said there were increasing tensions between the Sussexes and other members of the Royal Family.

They wrote: “There were just a handful of people working at the palace they could trust.

“A friend of the couple’s referred to the old guard as ‘the vipers’.

“Meanwhile, a frustrated palace staffer described the Sussexes’ team as ‘the squeaky third wheel’ of the palace.”

After stepping down as senior royals earlier this year, the couple said they would split their time between the UK and North America.

But they have been staying in Los Angeles, California, since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Sussexes last appearance as working members of the Royal Family was in March during the Commonwealth Day service.

The couple joined the Queen and other senior royals at Westminster Abbey for the event.

Since moving to the US, the Duke and Duchess have been pursuing various charity projects.
