They say you can’t always get what you want in life, but it seems that one Amazon customer knows this more than most.

John Browne was left ‘fuming’ when he ordered an Apple Watch from the internet giant, but was sent a toilet plunger instead.

The sales director was over the moon to score the Apple Watch Series 4 for £299 on the first day of its Black Friday sale.

However, his excitement about getting £100 off the normal retail price was crushed when he opened the parcel in front of colleagues at his central London office.

The package, which contained a £4.39 black and white toilet plunger, left staff ‘howling with laughter’.

Mr Browne, 31, said: ‘It was a pre-Christmas treat for myself and I have wanted one for a long time.

‘I waited for Black Friday specifically and got it delivered to me at work. I went down to collect it at reception and opened it in front of staff and they started howling with laughter.

‘They were all in absolute hysterics. But I was fuming.’

After ‘several hours’ of dealing with customer services, John says he was refunded £289 rather than the full £299.

When he complained, he claims he was given a £10 Amazon voucher in place of the money.

He has since tried to re-order the watch, which has a space grey strap, but says it has now sold out.
