AJ Pritchard rules out Strictly return and brother Curtis says he’d turn it down too

AJ Pritchard has ruled out returning to Strictly Come Dancing as a professional.

The 25-year-old announced earlier this year that he’d be stepping away from the BBC One show after four years.

But now that the show is set for a return on Saturday night, is he regretting his decision?

During an exclusive chat with the Mirror’s Jess Boulton live on Facebook, AJ was asked how he’d feel when the show kicked off this weekend.

He said: “It’ll be great, I’ll be sat here on the couch, not stressing.”

AJ said it was nice to see shows like Strictly returning to TV to give fans a sense of normality amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Neither AJ and Curtis want a spot on Strictly

“I did four fantastic years on Strictly,” AJ said as he talked about leaving the show.

“I’d reached what I had to do and felt, why not go out with a bang?”

AJ said everything turned out “perfectly” and that he was glad he now had time to concentrate on other projects.

He’s working closely with his brother, Love Island star Curtis, 24.

AJ said he’d go back in a different role but not as a professional dancer

The boys have a podcast together, which starts on Monday, and have shot a calendar together.

They’re also going on tour together next year and hope to get into TV presenting.

When asked if he’ll ever go back to Strictly, AJ ruled it out, saying his relationship with the show is over.

However, he did hint that he’d potentially be interested in going back as a judge in the future.

He said: “No, I think for me, I’m very clear in my thoughts and I’ve done four years, I’d want to keep that as such a cherished moment and not go back on there.

“I’d go back as something else maybe, but not as a professional dancer.”

Curtis used to be a professional on the Irish version of Dancing With The Stars.

When asked if he’d ever eye up a stint on Strictly, he said he’d have to turn it down.

He said: “Well Strictly is an incredible programme, I’ve always been a part of watching it and obviously AJ’s been a part of it, but no, I think right now, the future how it’s going, it’s me and AJ moving forwards, going into those presenting roles, having our own shows, and different things like this really.

“So unfortunately Strictly, I’d have to say no to you.”
